Carlos took the leap to Hollywood and got a role in James Bond. Driven by the goal of winning an Oscar, he was still trying to become better and more important. He began to lose himself.
“In the past, everything just revolved around me. Being an artist, actor and musician enabled me to earn my money with the things I loved. Hollywood is a place that lets people shine, and so I presented myself to others as being superior, strong and smart but was just lying to myself. My attitude towards life changed through the birth of my son, as suddenly there was a tiny creature in my life taking centre-stage which was more important to me than I was. It was my son who made me realise that there are people without careers who achieve happiness, and it,s precisely those people who have what I was missing from my life for a long time: contentment.”
The whole story and about 80 other portraits will appear in the book “People Like Us“.
